Healthy “Nutella” Smoothie

This smoothie was inspired by Nutella, which I liked to dollop onto toast and porridge as a treat when I was little. After all, who doesn’t like the combination of hazelnuts and chocolate? The frozen banana gives the smoothie a creamy consistency, and I keep a stack of frozen bananas in the freezer – I always make sure that I have one available by replacing the frozen banana every time I get one out.

You only need 4 ingredients and 2 minutes to make this smoothie and, as it’s a good source of carbohydrates and protein, I like to make it after a workout to refuel.

Serves 1

1 banana, chopped and frozen

1tbsp cacao powder

1tbsp hazelnut butter (If you’re using shop-bought, I like Meridian, but if you prefer to make your own, try making my Toasted Hazelnut Butter instead)

150ml almond milk (or your preferred choice of milk)

100ml water

Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)

Handful of spinach (optional)

Blend everything together until smooth.
