Last Saturday I headed over to Olympia for Kayla Itsines’ Sweat Tour 2016. I didn’t go to Kayla’s first London bootcamp last year, so I was excited to see what it would be like. I started Kayla’s BBG (Bikini Body Guides) just over 7 weeks ago so I’ll be sharing a review of the guides when I finish the full 12 weeks. When I saw the announcement for the (free) London bootcamp the day before the tickets went out, I set a reminder on my phone (tickets go very quickly!) and the next day I managed to grab a ticket as soon as they came out. Clearly everyone else had the same idea because the tickets sold out in about 40 minutes!
I went with the lovely Hattie, who I met through Instagram, and we managed to get quite a good place in the queue by turning up an hour before the gates opened. It was packed and we only found out afterwards that there had been an astonishing 2,600 women at the bootcamp. Tobi Pearce, Kayla’s fiancé, came on stage first and gave a really heartfelt speech about the community which he and Kayla have created. The message which he was essentially trying to get across is that BBG is not just a workout plan. By starting BBG you are immediately welcomed into a supportive network of girls and women who encourage and inspire each other and are gaining strength and confidence. You will achieve this, but you’ll also make new friends through BBG.
Kayla came on stage next and started crying – I can imagine it would be hard not to if you’d achieved what she has, especially when faced with so many adoring fans! She then proceeded to put us through a very tough workout (yes, there were tuck jumps and jumping lunges involved). I have to say though, working out with all of these women and having Kayla herself there made it really enjoyable – we pushed each other on, we laughed and we sweated together. The atmosphere was amazing (and very sweaty) and I don’t think I’ve ever pushed myself harder during a BBG workout than I did on Saturday. In fact, it made me wish that I was able to squeeze everyone into my living room for every BBG workout that I do!
Afterwards, Kayla and Tobi threw freebies into the crowd – no I didn’t manage to catch a foam roller (it’s a disadvantage of being short) but I did catch a towel! Hattie and I, along with every other woman, then queued for about 2.5 hours to get a photo with Kayla. This might seem crazy but then again Kayla does live at the other side of the world, so it was a one-off opportunity.
I really enjoyed the workout and together with meeting other BBG girls, Kayla and Tobi, it made me feel proud to be part of something so great. I’m also pleased to only be on Week 8, as I have a lot more of BBG to look forward to!
Thank you to Adidas, Kayla and Tobi and the rest of the Sweat Tour team for organising the event, and I hope to see you all again next year!
